Siye Abraha’s Seattle Speech Raised a lot of Eyebrows

by Kirubeal Bekele
Ato Siye Abraha’s speech at the recent Seattle meeting has raised a lot of eyebrows in the Ethiopian Diaspora. Most Ethiopians in the Diaspora think that Ato Siye have started sounding more like TPLF where he looks like a hybrid of the opposition and TPLF. No matter how hard is to imagine the chemistry of this kind of union, Siye seems to work hard on it to make it acceptable thereby confusing the opposition more than TPLF.
One thing is true. Siye has moved a little closer, carefully and slowly, to his ex-comrades than the opposition after the death of Meles Zenawi. The carefully woven and written speech of Siye in Seattle meeting has convincingly demonstrated the new Siye in the post-Meles era. This is quite a move for Siye but a little surprising and even shocking to the opposition. No wonder Siye came under fire at the Seattle meeting last week. It is possible he will meet at least a stiff resistance if not total rejection as he meets more Ethiopians in the Diaspora.
